In periurban areas agriculture can assume a multifunctional role that includes landscape conservation, sustainable resource management, biodiversity conservation, leisure activities, and can also maintain adequate conditions in densely populated areas for a safe and habitable environment. This study investigates the effects of the introduction of single farm payment on the periurban agricultural area in the plain of the City of Assisi, an area with a strong landscape value. A survey was carried out to determine: changes in production, changes on farm incomes, structural adjustments, the level of multifunctionality of periurban agriculture. Moreover, a survey of 355 residents was made to assess their willingness to pay for some positive externalities of the agriculture in this area. The results suggest the low-impact of reform on farms and the existence of a significant demand for environmental and social functions of the periurban agriculture of this region.Periurban Agriculture, Cap Reform, Economic Valuation, Contingent Valuation, Assisi, Agricultural and Food Policy, Research Methods/ Statistical Methods, Q10, Q18,

The aim of this contribution is to put some evidence on the influence of external factors in the farm decision making, often crucial in leading technical and commercial development and in fostering the expression of social and environmental sensitivity. This paper explores the concept of "embeddedness" focusing on the institutional domain that should affect market strategies. By studying the market orientation of 53 organic farms selected in two Italian regions (Emilia Romagna and Marches), the relation between regional origins and business strategies were analysed with the purpose to indirectly assess the role of institutions in promoting the development of Alternative Food Networks

A group of researchers from Bank of Italy has been recently carrying out comparative investigations about different aspects of the Italian industrial districts experience, marking a turning point in this field of study. Their outcomes turn out to be essential at least from two standpoints. On the one hand, they provides reliable measurements of the performances acquired and consolidated by the districts. On the other one they paves the way for perspectives of future researches. In this paper, after a bird's eye view of Italian studies on industrial districts, the authors discuss some of those researchers' findings. This has been done with regards to three basic points: whetherdistrict firms are more productive than their competitors, thanks to the particular environment in which they operate; whether the advantages of district environment translate into an higher capacity to compete on international markets; the industrialdistrict (so-called) labour market features
